Finding 'the sound'

I quite enjoyed making this set, and changed tactics a little bit in the Spell sound effects. I actually used real life recordings, some foley, and a (rather infamous) sound effects bank, and heavily processed it before putting it through the master buss that I still haven't quite worked into perfection yet.

The result I think is higher quality and greater clarity of purpose, but doesn't feel 100% adjacent to everything else. I wanted the sounds to stand out as unique, because I mean hey, it's magic! And I'm still proud of how it all turned out... But I'll have to look into maybe being a bit more rigid in the degradation process, and maybe even use a bit more multiband compression on ALL sounds going forward. I wanted to keep it true to what an 8-Bit sound might be, and I'm reasonably certain it still fits that mold, but so many of the sounds were inspired by the old games like Pokemon, where it was simply a form of MIDI and wavetables with ADSR to save even MORE space, that the dynamic and harmonic complexity introduced by actual recorded sounds may have created a noticable contrast in practice.

Oh well, still gonna work just fine. It's hard to imagine every possible use-case for these sounds (even though I try), and is a bit overwhelming trying to make a pack like this without a specific project in mind, and clear goals.

Still, no regrets, forever moving forward. God bless.
